MAKING YOUR MARRIAGE WORK

 MAKING YOUR MARRIAGE WORK

In my over thirty years of leaving on the face of the earth, I am not sure I have read or heard about any perfect marriage anywhere. The reasons there are imperfections in marriage is simply because there is no perfect individual anywhere. There is no perfect man or a perfect woman. Perhaps if the reason you are still single is simply because you are believing and trusting for that perfect man or woman to come your way, then I just hope you will not wait forever. Every marriage you see today that works or that is working is borne out of the fact that the people involved have deliberately chosen to make it work; irrespective of their imperfection and differences.

The reason divorce rate is on the increase is because either of the party involved in the marriage decided to give up! It is just a shame how nowadays; people have made divorce to appear so harmless and as a means to ending a marriage covenant. But from the beginning, it was not so. The God of heaven that instituted marriage is not in support of divorce. Let’s examine this bible passage in Mark 10:2-12. Some Pharisees came to Jesus to ask him whether it was lawful to divorce their spouse. Jesus, knowing this was a question to tempt him; asked them what was documented in their law. They replied, the law according to Moses says we should issue a certificate of divorce and send the spouse a way. But Jesus response afterwards was epic.

He said to them It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female. ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

If you carefully examine the above scriptures, what it is saying is that Moses made that law simply because you people were stubborn, and not because God wanted divorce. In marriage, God who made you and your partner to become one flesh; cannot seek to unmake you again. That is why marriage is “TILL DEATH DO US PART.” Think about this for a moment: is it possible to separate the ingredients you used in preparing your meal after it has been done cooking? Of course, it is not possible. The ingredients and the meal have become one. The same way God cannot make two people to become one flesh in marriage, and seek to separate them again.

;">What that tells you is that divorce isn’t an option. If you are planning to enter any marriage covenant with an option of divorce at the back of your mind in case things don’t work, then I would advise that you do not even propose getting married at all. You must understand that marriage is a covenant, and not a promise.
When you enter into a covenant, it is binding on the parties involved until death. It is only a promise you can make and then turn your back against it. Marriage covenant is even more serious than any other covenant you can think or talk of out there. When you have a full understanding of this fact that divorce isn’t an option, then you can cheerfully begin the marriage journey.

Haven said all these, making your marriage work is your responsibilities as husband and wife. God wouldn’t come down from heaven to do this for you; you must prayerfully and dutifully ensure that it works, even against all odds. Therefore, to enjoy a healthy marriage first and foremost requires that you bring God into the equation. Let me show you a scripture that succinctly explains this.

“Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”

Ecclesiastes 4:12

If you read the above scripture from verse nine of that chapter, you would have a full grasp of what the writer was saying before getting to verse twelve. You must understand that in the ship of your marriage, God must be the captain. He will teach and show you how best to relate with your husband or wife. He has a manual for marriage already that can be consulted for guidance on any issue. Forget about what Nollywood and Hollywood teaches us about marriage, no wonder there is high rate of divorce in the world. Allow God to steer the ship of your marriage and you will never miss it.

In conclusion, marriage requires that both parties work in order to reap the full benefit that comes with it. When you see couples that have been married for twenty or over thirty years, they can tell how much they have put into their union that has made it stand the test of time. Don’t believe the lies that the devil is spreading about marriage, especially through celebrities who finds it difficult to stay married. When you follow the tips being documented in the holy bible as regarding marriage, you will never go
